Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of Japan for cooperation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.

This Agreement sets out a framework for co-operation in the use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes between Turkey and Japan. The parties agree to cooperate in issues such as exploration and exploitation of source material which occurs in nature, design, construction, operation and decommissioning of nuclear reactors, production of nuclear fuel and equipment, nuclear safety, nuclear security, waste management, study on and application of radio-isotopes and radiation. The contracting parties further agree to cooperate on exchange of experts and information and supply of nuclear material, material, equipment and technology. The contracting parties promise that the implementation of this Agreement abides the obligations under the Convention of Early Notification of a Nuclear Accident, the Convention on Assistance in the Case of a Nuclear Accident or Radiological Emergency, the Convention on Nuclear Safety, the Joint Convention on the Safety of Spent Fuel Management and on the Safety of Radioactive Waste Management, the Convention on the Physical Protection of Nuclear Material, the International Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism. The disputes may be solved by arbitration. This Agreement may be amended by mutual written consent. The Agreement is valid for fifteen years and is automatically renewable for a five years period, with termination rights requiring six months written notice. Notwithstanding the termination of this Agreement, Article 1, Article 3, Paragraphs 2 and 3 of Article 4, Article 5 to 8, paragraph 2 of Article 9 and Articles 10 to 13 of this Agreement shall continue in effect.
