Presidential Decree No. 83/25 approving the National School Feeding Programme.

The general objective of the National School Feeding Programme (PNAE) is to universalise the provision of school meals for children enrolled in public pre- and primary school, so that they feel able to fulfil their school responsibilities in adequate nutritional conditions, thus guaranteeing their well-being, growth and development. The PNAE's specific objectives are as follows: Expand and ensure the equitable and qualitative distribution of school meals to children attending pre-school education and primary school pupils in public institutions, in order to reduce school drop-out and failure; Promote a nutrition- and gender-sensitive School Feeding Programme, linked to local products and with community participation; Encourage the development of the necessary infrastructure to guarantee the supply and packaging of school meals; Contribute to children's growth and biopsychosocial development, learning, school performance and the formation of healthy eating habits; Contribute to reducing the prevalence of malnutrition and risk factors for chronic non-communicable diseases and promote healthy lifestyles; Train the professionals involved in the PNAE; Establish partnerships for professional qualification, scientific research and innovation in promotion and education for food and health in the school environment.
