Decree No. 60.302 establishing the Information and Management System for Protected and Environmental Interest Areas within the State of São Paulo (SIGAP).

This Decree establishes the Information and Management System for Protected and Environmental Interest Areas within the State of São Paulo (SIGAP), as an instrument for planning and integrating the actions of public authorities with a view to ensuring an ecologically balanced environment. SIGAP will be governed by the several objectives and guidelines, such as: organize and make available information on protected and environmental interest areas in the State; plan and implement public policies; coordinate information on such areas, and establish guidelines for monitoring the use of natural resources; guarantee the conservation of biodiversity and genetic resources throughout the state territory and in jurisdictional waters; safeguard the biological heritage; promote the sustainable development of communities living in conservation units; improve the quality of life of the population, by conserving biodiversity and encouraging sustainable development actions; ensure the participation of local populations in the management of conservation units; take into account the conditions and needs of local populations; encourage the conservation of biodiversity and the sustainable use of natural resources on land, etc.
The management of SIGAP areas must meet the following priorities: coordinated action by its executing bodies and entities in the process of drawing up and implementing management plans; implementation of strategies that ensure the processes of generating and maintaining biodiversity; identification of conflicts over the use of natural resources and contributing to possible solutions; integration with territorial planning and sustainable regional development actions and policies.
