Abstract
This Law creates the State Policy for Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, with the aim of promoting sustainable and agro-ecological food production in urban and peri-urban areas, with a view to food and nutritional security, social and productive inclusion and improving the quality of life of individuals and families. The State Policy for Urban and Peri-urban Agriculture is one of the instruments of the Agricultural Policy of the State of Rio Grande do Norte, and should be part of the multi-annual plans, harvest plans and annual operational plans. The implementation of the State Policy must be in line with the guidelines established by the municipalities in relation to land-use planning, respecting the full development of the social function of the urban properties. The objectives of the State Policy are: improve access to food and availability of food for self-consumption, sale surplus in short chain circuits; promote health and adequate nutritional status and fight against malnutrition; promote programmes for groups of people in situations of food insecurity and social vulnerability; promote agro-ecology and organic food production; encourage the use of organic waste, wastewater and rainwater, etc.
