Law No. 13.572 establishing the State Policy for Coexistence with the Semi-Arid Climate and the related State System.

This Law approves the State Policy for Coexistence with the Semi-Arid Climate and the related State System. The objectives of the State Policy are: ensure the development of populations living in semi-arid regions, considering and integrating social, cultural, environmental, economic, ethnic-racial, generational and gender aspects; strengthen and promote the autonomy of the population through socio-productive inclusion and income-generating activities; articulate, in an integrated and transversal manner, the planning, management and monitoring of plans, programmes, projects and government actions to promote coexistence with the semi-arid climate; ensure the effective participation of civil society in related public policies; guarantee access to land to populations in their territories; universalize access to water for human consumption, animal drinking and productive use, appropriate technologies; mitigate the effects of drought and climate change; encourage the conservation of water resources, soil, biodiversity, genetic heritage and associated traditional knowledge, aiming at sustainable development; provide new processes for water, land and occupation compatible with the regional rainfall and soil conditions and biodiversity; promote food and nutritional sovereignty and security, guaranteeing the human right to adequate and healthy food; preserve the cultures and cultural identities of the 'sertões'; preserve traditional rights; promote production associated with tourism; stimulate the generation of wind, solar and biomass energy, etc.
