Law No. 22.978 creating the State Public Security Policy for Preventing and Combating Arson in the State of Goiás and its penalties.

This Law creates the State Public Security Policy for Preventing and Combating Arson in the State of Goiás and establishes its penalties to protect life, the environment, public health, property, as well as to strengthening the socio-economic conditions of the State. Actions to comply with this law will be integrated through the State Forest Fire Management Committee established by Decree No. 9.909 of 20 July 2021. The guidelines to prevent and combat arson are: use of police powers for the prevention and investigation of competing offences and crimes; preservation of the state's environmental heritage; preservation of crops and plantations; constant monitoring of areas susceptible to fires; implementation of physical and technical barriers in risk areas; continuous training of civil society for preventive and emergency action; draw up risk management reports and action plans for areas identified as vulnerable; cooperation between public authorities, trade unions, cooperatives and organisations representing the agribusiness sector; and awareness campaigns aimed at the population about the importance of environmental preservation and the risks associated with fires.
