Law No. 7.311 providing for the sustainable management of wild native stingless bees in the Federal District.

This Law provides for the sustainable management of wild native stingless bees in the Federal District. The Law aims to standardize the preservation, rescue, capture, removal, creation, reproduction, management, exhibition, trade and transportation of native bees, as well as the implementation of hives and the commercialization of their products and by-products in the Federal District. The main purpose of this Law is to meet sociocultural, scientific, and environmental education and conservation, in line with federal and district legislation. The Stingless Bees Programme aims at raising awareness among the population of the importance of stingless bees, establishing the following guidelines: I – creation of programmes and development of projects within schools; II – support for education workers through actions and participation of meliponic farmers and researchers, in order to guarantee effective universal access for students to education and environmental protection policies; III – encourage society’s participation in actions aimed at developing policies for the preservation of stingless bees.
