Abstract
This Law deals with the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of the Caatinga biome. Conservation and sustainable use of the Caatinga aim to: protect the biome's biodiversity by preserve remnants of native vegetation, combating deforestation and ecological restoration; encourage the multiple use of the Caatinga's natural resources; encourage sustainable extraction from the Caatinga resources for subsistence and economic uses; promote the recovery of degraded areas, especially for food and energy production; mitigate greenhouse gas emissions; preserve water resources, in quality and quantity, and guarantee water security for the population; revitalizing river basins; promoting soil conservation and good management of areas with agricultural and forestry activities; promote the coexistence of the human population with the phenomenon of drought; encourage the use of photovoltaic energy; and diversify the regional economy by including activities based on the use of biodiversity, and to encourage income generation with ecological sustainability.
