Abstract
This Law, consisting of 39 articles divided into six Chapters, establishes the Policy on Climate Change of the State of Pará (PEMC/PA), with its principles, guidelines, objectives and instruments. The State Policy is based on integrating the global effort and promoting measures to achieve the necessary conditions for climate change adaptation and mitigation, through the following objectives: adopting economic, financial and fiscal instruments, to promote the use of technologies to combat climate change and adaptation and mitigation measures for respective climate impacts; make economic development compatible with policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions; develop environmental education and population awareness, guaranteeing the participation of indigenous people and traditional communities; promote and create instruments to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions; identify and implement actions for the protection, management, conservation and restoration of ecosystems; encourage the use and exchange of environmentally sustainable technologies and practices; incorporate mitigation and adaptation into territorial planning at regional and local levels; design, execute, monitor and evaluate mitigation and adaptation measures to climate change, considering their impact on Human Rights, particularly of women, children, indigenous people, and other vulnerable groups, respecting their traditions and rights to self-determination; promote energy conservation and efficiency in specific sectors, etc.
Entry into force notes
This Law enters into force on the day of its publication.
