Abstract
This Law establishes guidelines and measures, in the form of this Law, for animal health protection within the State of Sergipe. It comprises a set of actions for the protection of herds, with the aim of preventing the introduction of eradicated or exotic diseases, their propagation, and the systematic fight against endemic diseases. The objectives of animal health protection are the prevention, control and eradication of diseases of economic impact and zoonotic importance, with the aim of enhancing the value of livestock and public health, as well as overseeing activities involving the agri-production sector. The Sergipe Agricultural Development Company (EMDAGRO) is responsible for: analyse the epidemiological situation, plan, articulate, standardize, coordinate, inspect and implement animal health protection and other related activities, in line with the recommendations of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOA) Terrestrial Animal Health Code, the standards of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) and other policies to protect the environment, public health and animal welfare; qualify or register private veterinarians, in compliance with current regulations; and maintain and monitor the epidemiological surveillance system, in order to collect, record, process, analyse, interpret and disseminate the resulting information.
