Decree No.5246 of 1994 on the organization of the Ministry of Agriculture and identifying its organogram and recruitment conditions in some of its positions and the salaries scale of the technical staff.

This Decree consisting of 133 articles aims at organizing the Ministry of Agriculture. At political and management level it consists of: 1. Directorate General; 2. Coordination and Planning Authority; 3. Agricultural Supreme Council.
Relating to the agricultural and plant resources, the Ministry is responsible for plant protection, horticulture and field crops and plant quarantine, plant import and export control, sericulture, ornamental plants and flowers, cooling and packaging rules for agricultural products.
As regards the animal resources, the Ministry is entrusted with animal production and husbandry, animal health, import and export control and veterinary quarantine.
The Ministry, through the Rural Development and Natural Resources Directorate, is also empowered to designate reforestation areas; to take care of the pastures and the public gardens; and to be responsible for marine and freshwater fisheries and game hunting affairs.
Two departments deal with food: the development and monitoring of the food industry department, and food and nutrition department which deals with, among other things, food safety and improving the level of nutrition in the rural areas.
For all these matters, the Ministry is concerned to follow the political, legislative and technical sides.
