Decree No. 72/2024 approving the Regulation Establishing Functions, Organisation and Operating Regime of the Maritime Surveillance Operations Coordination Centre (CEFMAR).

This Decree approves the Regulation on functions, organisation and operating regime of the Maritime Surveillance Operations Coordination Centre (CEFMAR). CEFMAR focuses on the integrated monitoring of activities and events that take place in the national maritime space and its bed and subsoil, subject to maritime jurisdiction, as well as the public domain adjacent to these waters. CEFMAR's duties include: a) coordinating and planning integrated maritime surveillance activities and combating maritime crimes; b) manage the joint use of human, material and institutional resources, and the operational resources required by the entities with maritime surveillance powers, with a view to rational and effective intervention capacity in good time; c) materialize the integrated maritime surveillance operations; d) ensure that the entities and institutions that make up CEFMAR deploy, within the scope of their hierarchical structure, the resources needed to carry out the operations, as well as the reinforcement resources; e) prioritise integrated inspections over other sectoral inspections; f) issue the necessary alerts to trigger intervention actions within the scope of integrated maritime surveillance; g) collect, analyse and share information related to integrated maritime surveillance operations; h) survey means and resources and inventory needs, proposing appropriate solutions; e i) promoting applied scientific research into maritime surveillance matters.
