Regional Decree No. 8/2020/M approving the structure of the Regional Secretariat for Sea and Fisheries.

This Regional Decree, consisting of 17 articles divided into five chapters and two Annexes, approves the Regional Secretariat for Sea and Fisheries (SRMar). It establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of SRMar, as the department of the Regional Government that defines and executes regional policy in the fields of fisheries, aquaculture, enhancement and sustainability of marine resources, exploration and research of the sea, licensing of marine uses, and sea, artificial reefs, coordination of the Regional Policy for the Sea, management of the Community Sea and Fisheries Funds and coordination with the National Maritime Authority and other entities that make up the Maritime Authority and Fisheries Inspection System, from a global perspective and sustainable development. In addition, it aims at ensuring the planning and coordination of the application of national and European Union funds to them.
SRMar is responsible for: a) Design, develop, coordinate and implement regional, national and community policy in the fields of sea and fisheries; b) Promote the competitiveness and sustainability of the sea and fisheries sectors, guaranteeing compatibility and economic development with protection, valuation, conservation and sustainable use of the sea in the Autonomous Region of Madeira; c) Promote information, awareness, education and training in the fields under its responsibility; d) Plan, design, manage and monitor programmes and projects under its responsibility, financed by national and community financial instruments and related to the areas under its responsibility; e) Promote the correct adaptation to regional peculiarities of national and community policies; f) Support the economic activities of each sector; g) Ensure cooperation with public and private, regional, national and international entities, etc.
