Abstract
It is illegal for Norwegian vessels to fish and land sprat in ICES statistical area IV of the territorial waters and exclusive economic zone and in the EU zone, and in ICES statistical area IIIa in territorial waters and in the Skagerrak off 4 nautical miles from baselines in the area bounded on the west by a straight line through Hanstholmen and Lindesne and on the south by a straight line from Hansen re to grub Spider, from Cross Garden to Spodsbjerg and from Gilbjerg Main to Kullen. Nevertheless Norwegian vessels equipped with purse seine and pelagic trawl permit may land a maximum of 10 000 ton of sea sprat in the EU zone. Vessels fishing and landing coastal sprat in Skagerrak is permitted to 3 120 tons between the EU and Norway. It is prohibited to fish sea sprat from 1 April to 31 July and catches may contain up to 10% herring weight landing. Maximum quota allowed when fishing in EU waters is 700 tons. Between 1 January and 31 July it is prohibited to fish for coastal sprat.
