Abstract
By the Decree No. 2017/10539 of the Council of Ministers of 3 July 2017, the Agreement on cooperation in the field of environment and forestry between the Government of the Republic of Turkey and the Government of Georgia has been approved. The Parties agree upon cooperation in the field of (i) adoption of environmentally sound solid waste management, (ii) hazardous waste management through early warning and information systems, (iii) water quality standards of inland, coastal and drinking water, as well as discharge of domestic and industrial wastewater, (iv) pollution control, (v) protection of Black Sea marine environment against pollution, (vi) protection of atmosphere against pollution stressing on transboundary movement of pollutants, oil and other hazardous substances, (vii) promotion of renewable energy resources, (viii) impacts of climate change, (ix) wildlife conservation, (x) biodiversity conservation, (xi) development of ecotourism, (xii) combatting erosion and soil rehabilitation, (xiii) integration of environmental and development policies to attain the objectives of sustainable development, and (xiv) protection of forests against pest, diseases, and forest fires. The Parties shall develop cooperation by implementing joint projects and by exchange of scientific and technical information, documents on research and development activities and environmental management practices, best environmental technologies, experts, researchers, consultants, NGO members and personnel. The Parties may organize training programs, meetings, conferences and symposiums. This Agreement may be amended by mutual written consent. Each Party shall designate a National Coordinator to be responsible for the management of cooperation activities under this Agreement. The dispute may be solved through negotiation. This Agreement shall be valid for five years and may be extended for successive periods of five years with termination rights requiring three months written notice.
