The Steering Committee for Implementation, elected during the first Global Meeting of the National Focal Points of the Montevideo Programme V, held its first meeting on Thursday, 5 August 2021. The co-chairs and rapporteur for the Steering Committee were elected, and will hold their term until the global meeting of national focal points following their election.
The Steering Committee for Implementation discussed three main points:
- The draft outline of the Roadmap to deliver the initial priority area for implementation of the Fifth Programme for the Development and Periodic Review of Environmental Law, namely, legal responses to address the air pollution crisis and its proposed strategy and action plan, was shared by the Secretariat, and members of the Steering Committee provided comments on its development;
- The Steering Committee members provided inputs regarding the resource mobilization strategy for the implementation of the Montevideo Programme V presented by the Secretariat;
- The Secretariat presented the progress of the preparation of the criteria for assessing technical assistance requests submitted through the LEAP clearing-house mechanism.
The steering committee will meet twice a year. In 2022, bearing in mind COVID-19 pandemic constraints, the meetings will be held remotely. If possible, an in-person meeting will be organized immediately before the in-person Global Meeting of National Focal Points. The date and location will be determined at a later stage.
