Following the online segment of the First Global Meeting of National Focal Points to the Fifth Montevideo Programme for the Development and Periodic Review of Environmental Law (Montevideo Programme V), hosted from 2 - 4 June 2021, the in-person (hybrid) segment of the Global Meeting will take place at the United Nations Office at Nairobi from 6 - 9 June 2022.
In 2021, National Focal Points adopted “legal responses to address the air pollution crisis” as an initial priority area for the implementation of the Programme, designated fifteen representatives to serve on the first Steering Committee for Implementation, as well as adopted the modalities of work of the Steering Committee.
The resumed meeting will be held in Nairobi, with online participation also possible for those who cannot attend the meeting in person. National Focus Points will continue discussing key arrangements and strategic guidance for the Montevideo Programme V, including the full set of priority areas for implementation of the Programme and guiding elements for the promotion of partnerships under the Programme.
A series of side-events focusing on the key areas of the Programme will take place in the mornings, in hybrid or fully remote formats. This will be an opportunity to tackle a wide range of topics, from air pollution to environmental rights, in the presence of relevant institutional and civil society stakeholders.
The provisional agenda as well as core meeting documentation are available for download on the meeting page.
