Abstract
The Criminal Code sets forth rules and principles governing the application of penalties, according to the type of crime and subjective imputation (principle of culpability). The code is composed of a Preliminary title (Criminal guarantees and the application of criminal law) and two Books. Book 1 (General provisions) lays down rules on criminal offences and contraventions, exclusion and modification of criminal liability. Book 2 concerns the penalties applicable to specific types of crime, including those against public health, the environment and wildlife species. Special rules on forest fires are set forth.
