Abstract
The purpose of this Decree is to regulate the conditions for the management of packaging, glass, paper and cardboard waste as well as organic waste produced by department stores and supermarkets as a result of their activities, in order to prevent and reduce the impact that the inadequate management of this waste generates on the environment and on urban areas and to promote its prevention and recycling. The specific objectives that are to be achieved through this Decree are the encouragement of the prevention in the generation of waste; the encouragement of the separation at source and of the recycling; the facilitation of the waste management for producers and owners.
For the purposes of this Decree, department stores and supermarkets with a dedicated section for food products and a built-up area of at least 1,200 m2 are to be considered as singular producers of waste. The Decree also provides that the selective collection service for packaging, glass, paper and cardboard and the organic fraction in department stores and supermarkets is applied without prejudice to the reuse systems that can be used.
The Decree further regulates the waste that is subject to selective collection, the obligations lying upon the single producers and the waste collection. Finally, it provides for inspections, offences and penalties for the non-compliance with its provisions.
