Decree 464/2023, of 27-9-2023, which approves the Regulation that establishes the criteria on spaces to prevent food waste.

The purpose of this Regulation is to establish the minimum criteria that must be met by spaces intended to display and sell to the public food products with a best before date and an expiration date close to expiry, as well as products with imperfections or defects that do not put the consumer's health or the functionality of the product at risk. These minimum criteria define the terms, location and signage in order to prevent food waste.
The text establishes deadlines that the shopping centers must comply with by type of product. It also regulates the location where the products subject to this Regulation must be displayed and put on sale and the signposting of spaces that must comply with the image, formats and message indicated by the Government.
The Regulation further establishes that products with a best before date or an imminent expiry date must be clearly differentiated from products to which this Regulation does not apply and they must be the object of a promotion that must be visible and easily identifiable by consumers.
