Abstract
Abu Dhabi Environmental Centennial 2071 is a multisectoral document drawing the pathways toward the future, laying the foundations for the period 2021 - 2071, so that Abu Dhabi to become the world’s best in environmental conservation. It is designed to address future global megatrends by offering integrated solutions and programs. To this end, the Centennial lays out 3 main pathways each of which includes 4 pillars, and every pillar sets out a vision, goals, and future programmes, namely (1) Vibrant emirate thriving in nature which includes (i) conserved biodiversity; (ii) clean and healthy air for all; (iii) soil and water that support life; (iv) optimal environment for a healthy society; (2) Green force resilient to climate change which includes (i) excellence in climate action; (ii) renewable and diversified energies; (iii) Green economy that drives development; (iv) circular economy towards zero waste; (3) Enablers for future environmental leadership which includes (i) environmental pioneering and distinction; (ii) inspiring green policies and regulations; (iii) influential environmental education and outreach; (iv) green innovation, science and technology.
Purposes of the document are (i) participating in the achievement of leadership directions through alignment with UAE Centennial 2071; (ii) strengthening Abu Dhabi’s rank in environmental conservation; (iii) setting environmental conservation visions for the years up to 2071 according to future trends, pressures, targets and practices; (iv) integrating environment, economy and other sectors to achieve sustainable future; (v) exploring opportunities to invest in advanced sciences and technology for environmental conservation.
