Federal Law No. 57 of 2004 issuing the Regulations on Radioactive Waste Management in the United Arab Emirates.

The provisions of these Regulations are applicable to all the cases related to the management of radioactive waste resulting from medical, agricultural or industrial materials.
The radioactive waste is divided into four levels according to the radioactivity concentration and the half-lives of the radionuclide as specified in Annex 2.
A licence is necessary for the generation of radioactive waste and its management. The Regulations specify the duties and responsibilities of the licensee. The licensee shall assure that the radioactive waste generated and its focus radiation do not exceed the minimum level set. The Regulations concern also the radioactive waste handling: Radioactive waste disposal; Radioactive waste sorting, collection and characterization; Temporary storage of radioactive waste; Radioactive waste conditioning; Transport of radioactive waste; Radioactive waste reuse; Disposal of radioactive materials in the environment; Disposal of equipments containing radioactive materials and used as consumer products.
