Abstract
Purpose of this Law is to establish the Centre for Waste Management, based in the city of Abu Dhabi.
The law consists of 19 articles divided in five sections: Definitions (I); Establishment of the Centre, and its head office, objectives and competencies (II); Centre Management (III); Centre Finances (IV); and Final provisions (V).
The establishment of the Centre aims at creating an institution that, together with the Environmental Authority, represents a centralized tool and reference for waste management; developing a comprehensive system for dealing with all types of waste, including the hazardous waste, starting from collection to transportation, treatment and disposal through the use of specialized companies and modern technology to preserve the environment. Article 5 specifies the competencies of the new institution.
Articles 6 – 8 concern composition, powers and duties of the Board of Directors, while articles 9 and 10 concern powers and duties of the General Director.
