Abstract
This Resolution consisting of 7 articles and I Annex provides for the registration of food products before their circulation on the market. The registration requirements will apply to all imported food products, locally manufactured products, and products of which labels and/or formulations have been amended or changed. The registration will be performed online through a unified federal system called ZAD (art.3).
The Annex specifies the conditions to register food products as follows: the food facility operators must submit an application containing the following information (i) a copy of the product label (in Arabic and English); (ii) an image of the product as it will be presented to the final consumer; and (iii) in case of health or nutritional claims being present on the label, the applicant must provide an official certificate from the country of origin supporting the claims. Applications for registration must contain the following information: bar-code number, country of origin, type of package, weight and volume, measuring unit, trademark, name and address of the manufacturer, commercial name of the product, list of additives if any, storage temperature, and ingredients. The products electronically registered are included in the comprehensive database of food products in the ZAD system, which enables food establishments to apply for import and export.
The Annex lists the food products excluded from registration, such as the ones for personal use or served in restaurants.
