Abstract
This Decree sets forth rules to determine the minimum requirements for the protection of individuals from exposure to ionizing radiation and to ensure the safety of radiation sources. These Regulatory Principles apply to all practices that involve exposure to ionizing radiation: use of x-rays in medical or industrial or agricultural purposes; extraction and processing of radioactive materials; presence of natural sources of ionizing radiation. These Regulatory Principles do not apply to: the presence of potassium 40 in the body, the cosmic radiation on the Earth’s surface, the radiation from radionuclide in raw materials. It is forbidden to adopt, introduce, suspend, or end any operation or business using radioactive sources without obtaining the approval from the competent authority.
The text also states: Principles of prevention and safety; Provisions for the licensing practices; Duties and responsibilities of the licensee; Prevention and safety rules in the areas of medical exposure; Prevention and safety rules in the areas of occupational exposure; Prevention and safety rules in the areas of public exposure.
All the enterprises dealing with radioactive sources are subject to inspection and control by the competent authority. The authority may revoke any licence if the licensee violates one of the requirements of these Rules or in case of danger menacing the workers or the environment.
