Abstract
This Regulation consisting of 36 articles and VIII Annexes defines the general rules and mandatory procedures for all owners or keepers of identifiable animals in the Abu Dhabi Emirate aiming at livestock development, control of animal diseases and epidemics and the promotion of traceability of food products of animal origin.
The Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) is the responsible body for identification and registration of identifiable animals and supervision of the inspection of holdings. Identification is mandatory for sheep, goats, cattle and camels by attaching to the animals, in the manner specified in Annex 2, an approved identifier containing all information specified in Annex 1. The Regulation gives measures to be applied in case of: (i) damage or loss of an identifier; (ii) the death of animals; (iii) sale or slaughter of animals; (iv) transport of any identifiable animal; (v) importing identifiable animals from outside the Abu Dhabi Emirate; (vi) identifiable animals exported from the Abu Dhabi Emirate; (vii) re-identification of animals which have been identified before this Regulation; (viii) permanent identification of other species; (ix) special identifiers eventually provided for by the ADFCA, (x) injured or killed animals as a result of the procedure of attaching permanent identification devices. The Annexes are entitled as follows: approval of identifiers for the electronic identification of identifiable animals (I); permanent identifiers of cattle, sheep, goats and camels (II); readers for the electronic identifiers of animals (III); means of identification of imported animals (IV); animal movement documentation (V); holding registers (VI); central register/computer database (VII); auditing for compliance with the animal identification and registration system in the Abu Dhabi Emirate (VIII).
