Resolution of the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Agriculture and Food Safety No.5 of 2020 to issue a system for the prevention and control of animal, epidemic and common diseases in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Abstract
This Resolution consisting of 24 articles aims at (i) enhancing the effectiveness of the biosecurity system to prevent disease and its causes; (ii) combating infectious and epidemic diseases and controlling common diseases to maintain public health; and (iii) improving the productivity of livestock and enhancing the safety of foods of animal origin.
To combat and control epidemics, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority has the following powers (i) enter holdings for the purpose of taking necessary measures; (ii) prohibit to circulate, transport or trade in any animal suspected of being infected; (iii) ban exhibitions of animals; (iv) prohibit the sale of animals in livestock markets; (v) prevent the slaughter of animals for consumption of meat or the sale of carcasses; (vi) temporarly restrict and ban the movement of animals and livestock production inputs; (vi) establish points to monitor and track disease progression and to monitor the movement of animals, their products and related materials; (viii) safe disposal of any sick animal or suspected to be sick; (ix) periodic programs and plans for animal vaccination; (x) set up mechanisms for reporting epidemic diseases to the competent authorities and owners of animals; (xi) epidemiological investigation procedures in case of suspected outbreak; (xii) establish the organizational and operational framework for epidemic and emerging disease response plans and control.. Article 11 deals in particular with the rules that veterinarians and fish and bee health technicians must adhere to.
