Abstract
This National Innovation Strategy (NIS) is a comprehensive, cross-sectoral initiative designed to elevate innovation in the UAE. It aims to cultivate a pervasive culture of innovation among individuals, companies, and governments, with a primary focus on key sectors crucial for future innovation. The NIS Framework is built upon three pivotal pillars: (i) fostering an innovation-enabling environment by developing appropriate regulatory frameworks, providing comprehensive support services, enhancing technological infrastructure, and ensuring investment and incentives availability; (ii) cultivating innovation champions across individuals, companies, institutions, and government; and (iii) prioritizing innovation in seven key sectors: renewable energy, transport, education, health, technology, water, and space.
The NIS targets specific sectors to promote innovation: (i) advancing renewable and clean energy industries, applied research, energy network efficiency, and decentralized generation; (ii) fostering leadership in transportation technology, unmanned vehicles, and eco-friendly air and sea transportation; (iii) enhancing technology innovation in smart cities, software, ICT, and manufacturing of advanced technologies; (iv) innovating education through creative teaching methods, 21st-century curricula, advanced learning infrastructure, and research centers; (v) revolutionizing health services with technologies like robotic surgery, pharmaceutical industries, and disease research; (vi) driving innovation in the water sector through solar-powered water processes, efficient water management, and solutions for regional and global water scarcity challenges; (vii) driving advancements in space exploration by elevating research and technology focused on celestial bodies, including the development of spaceships, probes, telescopes, and satellite communications. The goal is to integrate cutting-edge space technologies into terrestrial applications, positioning the UAE as a forefront nation in space research.
