Abstract
This Vision 2021 of Arab Emirates is a nationwide multi-sectoral document aiming at making the UAE among the best countries in the world by 2021. In order to translate the Vision into reality, its pillars have been identified into 6 national priorities which represent the key sectors of Government action, namely (i) prosperity, in terms of sustainable environment and infrastructure, healthcare, and education system; (ii) knowledge, with regard to competitive knowledge economy; (iii) destiny, in the sense of safe public and fair judiciary to reinforce citizens’ sense of security in all its aspects; (iv) responsibility, in terms of cohesive society and preserved identity. Furthermore, the Vision support the emerging role of women, stating that women will be protected against all forms of discrimination at work and in society.
To increase the resilience of livelihoods to disasters, the Vision aims to (i) protect the nature and reduce the impact of climate change on the urban environment and the ecosystem in order to pass to the future generations a sustainable environment; (ii) improve the quality of air, preserve water resources, increase the contribution of clean energy and implement green growth plans; (iii) maintain the infrastructure improving the quality of airports, ports, road infrastructure, and electricity; (iv) have all public and private hospitals accredited according to clear national and international quality standards of medical services and staff; (v) increase the healthcare system’s readiness to deal with epidemics and health risks; (vi) reduce carbon emissions from the national activities; (vii) improve the preservation of the environment by spreading environmental awareness.
