Afghanistan’s updated National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) provides a comprehensive approach to conserving the country’s rich biodiversity, which includes genetic, species, and ecosystem diversity. The document addresses major threats like habitat loss, climate change, and invasive species and highlights the urgent need for biodiversity-inclusive land-use planning, restoration of degraded habitats, and the establishment of protected areas covering at least 10% of the country. It also emphasizes the conservation of key species and promotes sustainable practices in agriculture and the legal trade of wild species to support ecosystem stability and biodiversity resilience.
