Abstract
This National Implementation Plan is a nationwide sectoral document developed by the National Environmental Protection Agency as partial fulfillment of its obligations under the Stockholm Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) signed by Afghanistan in 2013. Main goal of the NIP is to protect human health and the environment from persistent organic pollutants. Main proposed measures are (i) eliminate or reduce the production and use of the chemicals listed in Stockholm Convention; (ii) draw attention to the range of risks which exposure to POPs poses and their impact on the health of the local population; (iii) take measures to prevent the release of POPs from waste and unintentional production from combustion; and (iv) increase the media involvement in public education about chemical pollution, health, and the environment to raise greater awareness about sustainable development and environmental management.
