Abstract
The Regulation is based on Afghanistan Environmental Law and aims to manage the safe disposal of medical waste. The Regulation consists of 25 articles, divided into 5 Chapters: General Provisions (I); Management of Medical Waste (II); Medical Waste Standards (III); Responsibility of Authorities (IV); Miscellaneous Provisions (V). the main objectives of this Regulation include: to prevent and reduce biological negative impacts of medical waste; to protect human, animal and environmental safety; to eradicate medical waste; to monitor disposal of medical waste; to determine the responsibilities of medical waste authorities. The Regulation does not include the disposal of radioactive waste. The disposal of medical waste requires the permission of the Department of Environment. The authorities responsible for the disposal of medical waste shall ensure that medical waste does not mix with other waste. The vehicles carrying medical waste should be notable by specific labels. The Department of Environment shall prepare a list of standards for different methods of medical waste disposal. The Department of Environment is the authority responsible to implement the provisions of this Regulation.
