Abstract
This Act provides for the registration, functioning and management of co-operative societies, provides for the control of registered co-operative societies and provides rules relative to the operations of registered co-operative societies. It also makes provision for the resolution of disputes and establishes the Co-operative Societies Appeals Tribunal.
A person shall not carry on the business of a co-operative society unless it is registered in accordance with this Act. There shall be appointed a Supervisor of Co-operative Societies who shall regulate co-operative societies and be responsible for the administration of this Act.
The Act also, among other things, provides rules for the marketing of produce through the co-operative society and allows co-operative societies to establishes an apex body, i.e. a co-operative societies representing the majority of co-operative societies in Antigua and Barbuda.
