Abstract
This Act makes provision for measures to protect the cotton production of Antigua and Barbuda.
The Governor-General may, by Proclamation, published in the Gazette, declare any period of each year to be a close planting season for cotton. The Proclamation may be extended to other plants. Before the first day of the close season, an occupier of land shall burn all cotton plants present on the land. The Act prohibits the sowing of cottonseeds or the planting of cotton during the close planting season. An occupier of land shall, before planting cotton, notify the police officer in charge of his or her intention to plant cotton. The Act further requires cotton to be stored in accordance with provisions of this Act or Regulations made under it, defines powers of inspectors and provides for various matters of miscellaneous character.
