The text of the Act consists of 9 sections: Short title (1); Interpretation (2); Application (3); Penalty for discharge of oil into Maritime Areas (4); Place to discharge ballast water (5); Liability for pollution (6); Legal proceedings (7); Recovery of fine and cost of damage and cleaning (8); Authority to institute proceedings (9).
The Act applies to Maritime Areas of Antigua and Barbuda as defined in the Maritime Areas Act, 1982. Section 4 outlines also arguments of defence in proceedings for an offence of oil pollution.
