Abstract
The Act makes provisions for various matters relating to public health in Antigua and Barbuda.
For purposes of this Act a Central Board of Health is constituted under section 4. as a body corporate. The Chief medical Officer shall be ex-officio chairman of the Board. Duties of the Board are set out in section 11. The Board may appoint committees at its discretion under section 14. The Board shall undertake sanitary works, shall have regulation making powers, enforce provisions of this Act, issue orders, etc. Section 49 of Part VII contains definitions relative to food and drugs. Sections 50 to 52 regulate use of ingredients in food and prohibit the sale of food that is not of the nature, substance or quality required by the purchaser. Sections 54 and 55 contain provisions as to labeling of food. Regulation making powers of the Board as regards food are set out in section 57. Registration used for the preparation or sale of food shall be registered with the Board under section 63. Other provisions of Par t VII concern food inspection, testing and sampling, prescribe offences, provide for prosecution and legal proceedings, etc. Section 95 prohibits the use of milk from diseased cows. Slaughterhouses shall be licensed by the Board under section 139.
