Abstract
This Albania nationally determined contributions sets the projections and objectives in relation to the necessary reduction of national emissions (also greenhouse gas emissions) and consequential adaptation to the impacts of climate change (including emissions deriving from energy sector, agricultural sector, forestry, livestock, plant production, waste and other). On adaptation, this document focuses on the Albanian coastal area and the capital Tirana, which comprises a significant proportion of the population, as well as key infrastructure and is the main touristic destination in the country. Binding obligations here indicated are as follows: Council of Europe’s 2011 Convention on Preventing and Combating Violence against Women and Domestic Violence (“The Istanbul Convention”); Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination against Women. Non-binding obligations are listed as follows: UNFCCC Beijing Platform for action; Kyoto Protocol; Copenhagen Accord; Paris Agreement; 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs). Albania has taken initial steps to mainstream gender in its climate change policies and programmes. This includes guidelines on mainstreaming gender in climate change mitigation and adaptation programmes and plans. However, this has not been reflected in any of the recent climate-related policies and laws, none of which systematically address gender issues.
