Decision no. 833, dated 28 December 2023 on the approval of the Mat water basin management plan 2024-2029.

This Decision here approves the Mat river basin water management plan for the period from the year 2024 until the year 2029 (full text attached). This Albanian’s important river management plan takes into consideration and contains numerous issues regarding the necessary water management procedures and deriving recommendations. Listed below are some of the most important issues: 1. climate change and water resources; 2. hydrometeorological and monitoring data systems; 3. protected areas and water ecosystems; 4. floods and droughts; 5. morphology and continuity of the channel and the flooded area; 6. ecological information; 7. water use, water extraction and permits for water extraction; 8. water discharges, water pollution and water discharge permits; 9. dams and hydropower plants; 10. use, protection and monitoring of underground water; 11. quality of coastal waters and habitats; 12. coastal water level, hazards and flooding, erosion and flooding; for each issue, the report includes information about: the importance of treatment, current situation, complications and needs in the future, measures that can be implemented within the Water Basin Management Plan.
