Regulation No. 531 proclaiming the legatine complex of Butrint and the surrounding territories as special protected natural zone.

The natural territory of the legatine complex of Butrint (lake of Butrint, National Park of Butrint, Cape of Stillos and the islands of Ksamil) are declared to be a special protected natural zone for inclusion in the list of legatines of international importance, particularly as habitats of water fowl. This Regulation defines its boundaries and zoning. The zone is divided into five categories to ensure its protection and sustainable development: category “A” encompasses very strictly protected zones central to the preservation of biodiversity; category “B” includes the entire territory determined as archaeological and cultural heritage zones; category “C” encompasses the zones of natural resources where traditional economic activities tare carried out; category “D” are buffer zones where traditional activities are carried out; “E” are buffer zones with a concentration of urban dwelling in which traditional economic activities take place. The Ministry of Environment jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food, and the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports are responsible for preparing the management plan.
