2010-2020 Sustainable Agricultural Development Strategy of the Republic of Armenia.

2010-2020 Sustainable Agricultural Development Strategy of the Republic of Armenia is a multisectoral policy document is aimed at deepening of agrarian reforms, development of agricultural cooperatives, ensuring food security, increasing competitiveness of locally produced, developing organic agriculture, crop production, livestock husbandry, mitigation of agricultural risks and efficient land use.
The continuation of agrarian reform policy is aimed at fighting rural poverty. The overarching goal of the Sustainable Development Strategy is to overcome the financial and economic consequences and to establish anti-inflationary mechanisms to promote modernization of the road to increase competitiveness.
The main objectives of the Strategy shall be as follows: (a) deepening the integration links in overcoming the consequences of the financial and economic crisis in the agriculture and agro-food industry; (b) development of agricultural and inter-branch cooperative management of agricultural diversification; (c) improvement of agricultural and agro-processing products trade and increase of export volumes of agricultural commodities; (d) increase of agricultural competitiveness and promotion of know-how; (e) efficient land and water management, improvement of labor and intellectual resources potential for the benefit of agricultural sector; (f) ensure food safety in line with international standards; (g) expansion of non-agricultural employment in rural areas and increase of income of rural population; (h) development of rural community infrastructure through implementation of participatory programs; (i) development and accessibility of agricultural services; (j) improvement of the sectoral structure of agriculture and production of high value added products; and (k) protection of the environment and natural landscapes, agrotourism and organic agriculture.
Agrarian reform related to land tenure envisages performance of the following measures: (a) toughening of sanctions for non-purposeful use of agricultural land; (b) long-term management and long-term use of pastures; and (c) regulation of land reclamation.
Food security measures include: (a) physical and economic accessibility of foodstuffs; (b) increase of local production of foodstuffs; and (c) promotion of manufacturing and consumption of vital foodstuffs, in particular bakery products, vegetable oil, sugar, meat and fish.
