Food Laboratory Testing Program.

Food Laboratory Testing Program is a nationwide policy document approved by the Government and considered one of the most important elements in the development of the food safety system in the Republic of Armenia aimed at increase in the quality of food produced, which, in turn, will increase the volume of food exports and will also help provide the population of the Republic of Armenia with safe, high-quality food.
Food Safety Inspection shall be the authorized state institution in the field of the performance of food safety inspection, at all stages of food chain (manufacturing, processing, trade, transport, storage, import). Checks carried out for the purpose of state control of food safety are carried out in testing laboratories authorized by the results of the competitive tender. Laboratories carrying out laboratory tests of food products must be accredited in the field of testing, defined as a conformity assessment body, included in the Unified Register of Testing Laboratories of Certification Bodies of the Eurasian Economic Union.
The objectives of the Program: (a) performance of laboratory research in the field of food safety in accordance with the requirements of international standards; (b) providing the population with safe and high-quality food products and raw materials in terms of the requirements determined by veterinary and sanitary, as well as technical regulations, other regulatory legal acts; and (c) detection of hazardous food products at the stages of the food chain, preventing their further trade and circulation.
The Program is continuous. The Program provides for annual laboratory testing of food products. The basis for determining the number of samples is the volume of laboratory tests carried out in previous years.
