Decree No. 79/07 creating the Nuclear Energy Authority (AREA).

This Decree, approves the Statute of the Nuclear Energy Authority (AREA). The Statute, consisting of 5 Chapters and 1 Annex, establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned public Authority entitled to: carry out scientific research on nuclear technological development, implementing the National policy on nuclear energy production, use and management. This Authority coordinates, controls and monitors any activity related to the use of radioactive sources, materials and substances, as well as the nuclear cycle, according to provisions established by Law No. 4/07. The Annex specifies composition and responsibilities of this Authority.
