Executive Decree No. 2/79 creating, under the direct responsibility of the Minister of Fisheries, the Department of Artisanal Fisheries and Support to Fisheries Cooperatives.

This Executive Decree creates, under the direct responsibility of the Minister of Fisheries, the Department of Artisanal Fisheries and Support to Fisheries Cooperatives. It establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned Department, entitled to perform the following activities: Promote and encourage the establishment of fishing cooperatives, guiding, coordinating, and regulating their activity; Provide support to artisanal fishing and propose specific protection regulations; Take concrete measures to increase the catches made by artisanal fisherfolks, organized or not in cooperatives and facilitate the selling of fishery products; Contribute to the creation of a spirit of unity and cohesion among artisanal fisherfolks, etc.
