Abstract
This Law creates the Serra do Pingano Conservation Area, aimed to create a nationally protected area to ensure the long-term conservation of an ecologically and scientifically significant afromontane ecosystem located in the Uíge Province. The law’s main objective is to protect and preserve the region’s geomorphological, hydrological, and habitat features, with particular emphasis on the conservation of endemic species, including the flora and fauna of Angola’s escarpment forest and the country’s humid forest bryophyte diversity. It seeks to maintain biodiversity, prevent deforestation and uncontrolled burning, and safeguard natural resources from harmful land-use changes, while promoting environmental education, ecotourism, and the sustainable and regulated use of natural resources so as to reconcile conservation goals with the subsistence needs of local rural communities.
