Abstract
This Law creates the Serra do Moco Conservation Area, aimed to establish a nationally protected area to safeguard one of the country’s most ecologically significant mountain ecosystems. The law’s main objective is to ensure the long-term conservation of the afromontane forest remnants of the Serra do Moco, protecting its rich biodiversity, endemic species, geomorphological and hydrological features, and associated ecosystem services. It seeks to prevent deforestation, uncontrolled resource extraction, and landscape degradation, while promoting environmental education, scientific research, ecotourism, and the sustainable use of natural resources under regulated conditions, thereby balancing conservation priorities with the subsistence needs of local communities and contributing to the protection of Angola’s natural heritage for present and future generations.
