Abstract
The Medium-Term Development Plan for the Agricultural Sector (PDMPSA) 2018-2022 aims to transform Angola's agricultural sector into a productive, competitive, and sustainable contributor to the country's economic growth and social development. The plan focuses on achieving food security, reducing poverty, and diversifying the economy by increasing the production and productivity of key agricultural, livestock, and forestry products. It emphasizes the importance of modernizing agricultural practices, improving access to resources such as land, water, and inputs, and fostering the development of agro-industries to add value to local production.
The plan outlines strategic objectives, including expanding agricultural production to meet domestic needs and enable exports, supporting the sustainable development of family and commercial farming, and improving the sector's infrastructure and capacity. Key programs include initiatives to enhance land management, promote mechanization, ensure the availability of inputs, and improve irrigation systems. Additionally, the plan seeks to strengthen the institutional framework, attract and retain skilled professionals, and foster research and innovation to address sector-specific challenges.
To achieve these goals, the PDMPSA emphasizes the need for coordinated efforts across government sectors, partnerships with the private sector, and the mobilization of financial resources. It also highlights the importance of addressing risks such as climate variability and market access constraints. By implementing these measures, the plan aims to position the agricultural sector as a cornerstone of Angola's economic diversification and a driver of rural development and improved livelihoods.
