Nationally Determined Contribution of Angola.

This Nationally Determined Contribution recognises the country's vulnerability to climate change and therefore illustrates its commitment for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and adaptation of its territory and population to the adverse impacts of climate change, thus contributing to the achievement of the country’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and National Development Plan objectives. In compliance with the Paris Agreement, Angola reviewed its 2015 Intended Nationally Determined Contribution, presenting, for mitigation and adaptation purposes both unconditional and conditional measures: “unconditional contribution” is what Angola could implement based on its own resources and capabilities; “conditional contribution” is what the country would undertake if international means of support are provided. Undertaken measures cover the period 2020-2025 and aim at the following sectors: energy (including transport), agriculture, fisheries, forestry, industry, waste, coastal zone management, ecosystems and biodiversity, water resources, human health, infrastructures.
Concerning the various sectors, the Contribution provides for the following interventions: decarbonising the power sector and improving the use of renewable energy sources, even with private investment, and the use of natural gas for electricity generation; increase waste management and the disposal of solid urban waste, in order to improve the health and hygiene conditions of the populations, and to benefit from its exploitation, generating biogas; reforestation projects and increasing the use of biomass; promotion of competitiveness of artisanal fisheries; improvement of fishing productivity and introduction of an ecosystem approach to fisheries and aquaculture management; development of coastal zone and of its potential for tourism and recreational activity; improvement of forest fires prevention actions; improving the collection of local seeds and creation of new adapted varieties; improvement the monitoring of rainfall and watersheds; implementation of a water collection and storage system in drought areas; improvement of existing wastewater collection and treatment system.
