Abstract
This Presidential Decree establishes the Regulation for the Licensing of Waste Deposits of Low and Medium Levels of Radioactivity. The Regulation, consisting of 30 articles divided into five Chapters and two Annexes, lays down the general criteria and procedures for licensing initial, intermediate, provisional and final disposal of radioactive waste. These provisions do not inhibit legally authorized persons from exercising their responsibilities and performing necessary actions in order to provide the protection and safety of occupationally exposed workers, public health and the environment. Within the scope of the application of this Regulation, provisions on adoption, introduction, suspension, interruption or termination, design, construction, management and decommissioning of the deposit must be considered. The following deposits are exempt from licensing: a) Class 3 Radioactive Waste Deposits that are not stored in packages, but in the form of batteries, as is the case in ore-industrial installations; b) Class 6 Radioactive Waste Deposits; c) Class 2 Radioactive Waste Deposits, Radioactive Waste with a very short half-life, which are located in facilities where they are generated.
