Presidential Decree No. 13/23 approving the National Plan for the Promotion and Development of Livestock (PLANAPECUÁRIA).

This Presidential Decree approves the National Plan for the Promotion and Development of Livestock (PLANAPECUÁRIA). The general objective of PLANAPECUÁRIA is to: Contribute to the food and nutritional self-sufficiency of the populations in order to combat hunger and poverty; Increase the incomes of livestock producers and other stakeholders along meat production value chains; and Increase the contribution of domestic livestock production to meeting domestic consumption needs, exports as well as the country's GDP. PLANAPECUÁRIA is part of a set of strategic policy measures of the Government, and, for implementation in the next 3 years (2023-2025), which should be included in the National Development Plan PDN 2023-2027.
This Plan has 9 specific objectives, namely: a) structure and organize, in the Cooperative Sector, the meat and livestock production value chain, through training, increasing their levels of productivity, decreasing imports and promoting exports; b) foster the installation of the food industry, slaughterhouses, legal slaughter and processing houses, water holes, refrigeration centres, and other equipment; c) attract private investment; d) improve sanitary control; e) develop the surveillance and control system for animal diseases to protect the livestock production; f) guarantee the preservation of public health through controls; g) improve the management capacity of animal production; h) improve the system for collecting and processing statistical data on animal products; i) strengthen technical capacities through training and recruitment of specialized staff, and develop scientific research and technological innovation with research institutions.
