Presidential Decree No. 159/20 approving the Statute of the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas (MIREMPET).

This Presidential Decree approves the Statute of the Ministry of Geology and Mining (MGM). The Statute, consisting of 25 articles divided into four Chapters and three Annexes, establishes composition, duties and responsibilities of the above mentioned institution, as an auxiliary Ministerial Department of the President of the Republic and Head of the Executive Branch. The Ministry is responsible to perform the following activities: Formulate and propose the general bases of national policy on the country's mineral, oil, gas and biofuels resources; Develop and propose the programme for the development of mineral, oil, gas and biofuels resources, in accordance with the National Development Plan and ensure the monitoring, control and inspection of their implementation; Promote the carrying out of inventory studies of the potential of mineral resources, petroleum, gas and biofuels in the country; Propose legislation to regulate sectoral activities; Study and propose necessary measures for the achievement of national objectives related to knowledge, valuation, rational use and renewal of reserves of the country's mineral, oil, gas and biofuels resources; Encourage innovation in technological development through an appropriate selection, acquisition and dissemination of technologies related to the sector; Propose measures to promote, promote and boost geological, mining, oil, gas and biofuel projects, creating favorable conditions for attracting and maintaining investments in the sector; Streamline actions related to the prevention of natural disasters, in close collaboration with the Geological Institute of Angola, Civil Protection and other competent entities, etc.
